Oxford Seed Fund is the University of Oxford's student and alumni-led venture capital fund, housed within Saïd Business School and powered by The Entrepreneurship Centre. Founded in 2012, it is the largest student-led seed fund in Europe, investing up to £100,000 into early-stage startups where current Oxford students, alumni, or researchers are part of the founding team. The fund provides not only capital but also mentorship and access to Oxford's entrepreneurial network. Oxford Seed Fund has demonstrated significant investment activity in Africa, particularly in Nigeria's e-commerce and retail sector. Between 2021 and 2022, the fund deployed $2.2 million across seed-stage investments, with a concentrated focus on supporting technology-enabled startups in the region. The fund collaborates with a network of co-investors including Hustle Fund, Magic Fund, and Microtraction, among others, to support portfolio companies through their early growth phases. The fund operates on a practical learning model where alumni recruit and work alongside student team members who gain hands-on experience in venture capital. Applications are accepted year-round at no cost to founders, and the fund has previously backed ventures that achieved unicorn status, including Onfido and Go1.
