How reviews are moderated
How user reviews are submitted, moderated, and summarized.
Overview
Users can leave reviews on products listed on Liners. Reviews help others understand real product experiences, so we moderate them before they become part of the public rating system.
Submitting a Review
To leave a review, you need to:
- Be logged in to your account.
- Visit a product page and click the review button.
- Choose a star rating (1-5).
- Write your review text with specific feedback about the product.
- Optionally upload proof images (screenshots of the product in use).
After you submit, you'll see a confirmation that your review is under review.
Moderation
Reviews are evaluated with AI-assisted moderation and, when needed, human review.
Agent Ammie helps check for authenticity, quality, fraud patterns, and policy compliance.
Moderation looks at whether a review appears genuine, specific, compliant, legit, useful to other readers, and safe to publish. Reviews that need a closer look can be held for additional review.
We do not publicly disclose specific checks, thresholds, or signals. That protects the review system from manipulation.
Image Analysis
If you upload proof images (screenshots, photos of the product in use), Ammie will also evaluate whether the images are relevant and authentic. Attaching proof images can help your review get approved faster and may result in a "verified" badge on your review.
Review Status
Reviews can be in one of these statuses:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Pending | Under review by our moderation system. |
| Approved | Passed moderation, visible on the product page. |
| Rejected | Didn't meet our standards after manual review, not displayed. |
Review Summaries
Once a product accumulates enough approved reviews, Liners may generate a summary of common themes, strengths, complaints, and overall sentiment.
These summaries appear on the product page and help visitors quickly understand what the community thinks without reading every individual review.
Editing Reviews
You can edit a review you've already submitted, as long as it has been approved. To edit:
- Visit the product page where you left your review.
- Scroll to the review form, you'll see your existing review with an "Edit review" button.
- Make your changes and submit.
Edited reviews are sent back through moderation (status resets to Pending). This means your updated review will temporarily disappear from the product page until it passes moderation again. This ensures all published reviews meet our quality standards.
Review Reports and Clarification
Product owners can report approved reviews on products they own when they believe the review is unfair, fake, misleading, or violates our guidelines.
Clarification Flow
When a report needs more context from the reviewer:
- A reviewer receives an email from
reviews@liners.comasking them to provide more details. - The reviewer can respond in two ways:
- Click the link in the email and submit their response on our platform.
- Reply directly to the email.
- The reviewer has 14 days to respond.
- If they respond, the clarification is reviewed before a final decision is made.
- If they don't respond within 14 days, the report is reviewed based on the available information.
This process gives product owners a way to flag concerning reviews while giving reviewers an opportunity to provide context before any action is taken.
Star Ratings
The overall star rating displayed on a product page is the average of all approved reviews. Only reviews that passed moderation are included in the calculation.
Summary
Reviews go through moderation before they contribute to public product reputation. The process is designed to publish useful user feedback, block abuse, give reviewers a chance to clarify when needed, and summarize community sentiment responsibly.
Users can edit their approved reviews at any time, edited reviews go back through moderation. Product owners can report reviews, and reviewers may be asked for clarification before a final decision is made.
