Top 7 African Alternatives to Preply (2026)

For a Nigeria-focused alternative, SabiTeach is a strong match because it is built as a tutoring marketplace in Nigeria. It lets you filter tutors by subject and price, then book and pay for live lessons and exam prep.

People searching for an African Preply, or the Preply of Africa, are often trying to match how learning and payments work locally: finding tutors who understand local curricula and exam goals, paying in local currency on familiar rails, and getting support that understands on-the-ground context. For users comparing Tutoring options across B2C learning and Language Learning, it can also matter whether a product is a true Marketplace with tutor discovery and booking, or a more structured learning app that still offers tutor time.

What to Compare Before Switching From Preply

• Country availability and time zones: Confirm the platform is actually active where you are, for example SabiTeach is focused on Nigeria, while Baro Somali is based in Somalia.
• Marketplace vs structured course format: If you want to browse tutors by subject and price then book lessons, prioritise a marketplace model like SabiTeach; if you prefer guided lessons with optional class booking, look at Akonilede Yoruba.
• Subject and language focus: Check depth in your target language or curriculum, for Somali learning with native-speaker tutors, Baro Somali is purpose-built.
• Tutor vetting and matching: If you care about verified teacher quality for exam prep, look for explicit vetting, SabiTeach positions itself around vetted online tutors.
• Booking and scheduling flow: Make sure you can book live lessons inside the product, SabiTeach supports booking, and Akonilede Yoruba includes in-app class booking.
• Self-paced materials alongside live tutoring: If you want materials you can use between sessions, Baro Somali includes self-paced resources alongside one-on-one tutoring.
• Who it is designed for: Some products serve individuals directly, while others can suit parents or organisations paying for learning; SabiTeach spans B2C and B2B use cases.
