Africa H1 2026 startup funding hit $1.36B. Fintech led, but Spiro’s $327M round drove logistics to 35% and boosted climate tech share.
Africa H1 2026 funding totalled $1.36 billion, excluding exits. Fintech and logistics took more than three quarters of the capital. One deal, Spiro’s $327 million raise, made up almost a quarter of all funding.
Spiro helped shape the Africa H1 2026 funding picture, according to new data from Spiro and the Africa: The Big Deal dataset.
Startups raised $1.36 billion in the first half of 2026, excluding exits, which are liquidity events like acquisitions or IPOs (a company listing shares on a stock exchange).
Fintech remained the top funded sector at $556 million, or 41% of total capital. Logistics and transport followed with $472 million, or 35%.
Spiro, a Kenya-based electric vehicle company, raised $327 million. That single round represented 24% of all funding across Africa in H1 2026. It also made up about 70% of the logistics and transport total.
Other top sectors by funding were agri and food at $93 million, waste management at $60 million, and energy and water at $50 million.
Large rounds can distort sector rankings. Still, logistics and transport’s 35% share stands out. The sector had never exceeded 13% even at its previous peak in 2024.
Energy and water moved the other way. Its 4% share is down from the 20% to 27% range it held between 2023 and 2025.
Because much of the logistics funding was electric vehicle related, climate tech’s share of total funding rose to 39% in H1 2026. That is up from 34% in 2024 and close to 2025’s 38%.
By deal count, the story is broader than the dollar totals. Fintech still led on volume, with 48 funded companies, or 25% of all funded startups. Healthtech had 29 deals, logistics and transport had 27, and agri and food had 26.
The takeaway for founders and investors is that capital is still concentrated, but activity is spreading across more sectors. Bigger cheque sizes, however, remain clustered around a few themes and a few standout rounds.
