Pickalbatros Hotels & Resorts signed a $250M sustainability-linked financing with IFC and Attijariwafa bank to fund Morocco hotel deals and upgrades.
Pickalbatros Hotels & Resorts has secured $250 million in sustainability-linked financing to expand its Morocco portfolio. The financing was provided by IFC, a member of the World Bank Group, and Attijariwafa bank.
Zilla Capital said it acted as exclusive financial adviser to Pickalbatros on the deal. It structured the facility as a dual-currency package split into three tranches, and managed the process through negotiations and signing.
According to the parties, this is the largest IFC-backed hospitality financing transaction in Morocco so far. It is also the biggest financing Pickalbatros has signed.
Pickalbatros plans to use the funds to support recent acquisitions including Sofitel Casablanca Tour Blanche and Mövenpick Hotel Casablanca. The package also covers upgrades and “greening” work in Marrakech and Agadir, plus refinancing existing debt into longer maturities, meaning the company gets more time to pay back older loans.
Large hospitality financing is a useful signal for Morocco’s tourism and real estate supply chain. Hotels drive demand for local construction, facility management, energy services, and digital tools that support bookings and operations.
The sustainability-linked structure also matters. Instead of being only a standard loan, it ties cost of capital to measurable goals, often around energy efficiency, water use, or emissions reporting. That can push hotel groups to invest in modern building systems and greener retrofits.
For IFC and local banks, deals like this show how development finance and domestic lenders can co-fund large private-sector projects. For Pickalbatros, it supports faster expansion while simplifying multiple funding needs, acquisition costs, renovation capex (capital spending), and refinancing, into one package.
