MTN Uganda expanded its Y’ello Care health initiative in Gomba District, backing maternal care, digital health services, and local clinics with partners.
MTN Uganda expanded its Y’ello Care health initiative in Maddu, Gomba District. The campaign focused on maternal and child health, digital healthcare, and support for local health facilities.
MTN Uganda ran a two-day community engagement in Maddu under its 2026 theme, “Expand Equitable Health for Every Community.” The work sits inside the operator’s wider 21 Days of Y’ello Care programme.
In Gomba, the telco said it prioritised maternal and child health services, plus “digital health” support. Digital health is the use of phones and software to deliver care services, for example booking, consultations, follow-ups, and payments.
MTN Uganda also provided essential medical equipment to health facilities and supported healthcare delivery for community members. Phrase Lubega, Managing Director for MoMo, said progress requires shared responsibility between organisations, communities, and other stakeholders.
The activities were delivered with partners including Mengo Hospital, CoRSU Rehabilitation Hospital, Zuri Health, and clinicPesa. MTN Uganda highlighted employee volunteerism as part of how the programme is run.
Telecom-led health programmes are becoming a practical way to reach underserved communities, especially where clinics are under-resourced. When telcos bring partners and staff volunteers, they can help clinics extend services quickly without waiting for long procurement cycles.
The digital health angle also matters. As more care moves onto mobile channels, clinics need simple tools that work with local realities, including low smartphone access, limited connectivity, and cash-based payments.
For startups like clinicPesa and Zuri Health, partnerships like this can open distribution. They put services in front of patients and frontline health workers, and they can create repeat usage after the campaign ends.
