Moment has raised $22 million in a Series A led by AlphaCode to expand its payment infrastructure across Africa, now handling 600,000 daily transactions.
Moment, a payments infrastructure fintech backed by MultiChoice, has raised $22 million in a Series A round to accelerate expansion into more African markets.
Payments infrastructure means the behind-the-scenes rails that help businesses accept and manage payments, like recurring debits and local payment methods.
AlphaCode Venture Partners led the round. Existing investors General Catalyst and MultiChoice joined, alongside Canal+, which acquired MultiChoice in 2025.
Moment said the new capital will be used to scale its platform and deepen market coverage. The company’s total funding since launch is now $55 million.
Moment launched in 2023 and was initially built to support MultiChoice’s payments. It has since grown beyond the pay-TV group, offering merchants and consumers payment tools in South Africa, including recurring payments and support for locally preferred payment methods.
CEO Joel Yarbrough said Moment’s platform processes about 600,000 transactions daily. He added that the product is designed to stay reliable despite power and connectivity issues that can affect payment success rates.
Africa’s digital payments market is large, but fragmented. Many countries have different rails, rules, and common payment methods, which increases cost and complexity for merchants.
Moment is betting that enterprises will pay for a platform that handles that complexity in a compliant way, meaning it follows local regulations and reduces operational risk.
Canal+ joining the round also signals strategic value. For large consumer businesses, lowering payment processing costs and improving transaction success can directly lift revenue, especially for subscription and recurring billing models.
For the wider ecosystem, more funding into payment rails could mean better uptime, more local payment options, and faster settlement for businesses as Moment expands beyond South Africa.
