Minbos Cabinda Phosphate Project Awaits $1.3M BFA Drawdown

What Happened

Minbos Resources said the final assessment of an FGC guarantee is underway for its financing facility with Banco de Fomento Angola (BFA). The Cabinda Phosphate Project funding depends on this guarantee.

A guarantee is a formal promise that reduces a lender’s risk, similar to having a co-signer on a loan. In this case, the guarantee would support BFA’s loan facility and allow the bank to proceed with the first release of funds.

Minbos said representatives from the Fundo de Garantia de Crédito (FGC), including a board member, visited the Cabinda Phosphate Project in mid-August as part of the final assessment process. The company said that once the guarantee is issued, BFA should be able to complete an initial drawdown of about US$1.3 million. Minbos said this first drawdown is intended to pay key project suppliers.

Why It Matters

For capital-intensive projects like mining and fertiliser inputs, supplier payments can be a gating item. A delayed funding release can slow procurement and construction, even when on-the-ground work has started.

Minbos also shared a construction and readiness update. It said Phase 2 construction has commenced, and its independent technical adviser, Stelo, has visited and approved conditions precedent linked to project funding.

Steel framework fabricated in Portugal departed on 26 August, with arrival in Cabinda expected in September via Luanda. Construction teams are scheduled to arrive in Cabinda on 6 September, and installation is planned to start on 7 September 2026.

On mining operational readiness, Minbos said it has submitted a Phase 1 mine plan to Angolan authorities, shortlisted two contractors for mining and ore haulage, and is finalising safety, environmental, community plans, and local staffing frameworks.
