Milsat is the startup behind Nigeria’s National Digital Postcode. The system assigns 11-character codes to buildings and supports logistics and digital services.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy says Milsat built the technology behind the National Digital Postcode system. The platform launched on October 1, 2026, and assigns an 11-character code to each addressable building.
Milsat was identified as the startup powering Nigeria’s National Digital Postcode, according to a post by minister Bosun Tijani. Milsat was founded by Taslim Saluadeen and Adedamola Baderinwa.
The minister said the company moved from delivering a pilot in 2023 to building the national system. The National Digital Postcode is described as GIS-enabled, meaning it uses mapping and location data (like a digital map that stores coordinates) to generate address codes.
Tijani also acknowledged Meeds Network Limited and the National Population Commission for their roles in the project. Nigeria’s postal agency, NIPOST, is expected to operate the platform.
The minister added that Milsat supported the National Population Commission in mapping more than 65 million properties ahead of Nigeria’s first digital census. He also said the startup has deployed enumeration area demarcation technology in Sierra Leone, which is software that helps define and divide census zones for counting people and homes.
A consistent digital addressing system can reduce delivery failures and help emergency response, logistics, and e-commerce services find locations faster. It can also support identity, banking, and government services that depend on matching people and businesses to verified addresses.
For Nigerian startups, Milsat’s role signals that local firms can win large public infrastructure projects, not just build consumer apps. If implemented well, a national postcode database can become a base layer for other digital public services, from permits to tax administration and census planning.
