Insight7 CEO Odun Odubanjo explains why he built the analytics product, what he learned from two pivots, and why acting on data is still hard.
Insight7 is a data and analytics startup built to help teams turn scattered customer and market data into decisions. Its founder, Odun Odubanjo, says the company has gone through two pivots in three years.
Insight7 came out of a repeated problem Odubanjo says he saw across jobs, companies had lots of data, but could not use it day to day.
Odubanjo studied computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria. He started out building mobile apps with J2ME, a Java tool for older feature phones.
In 2011, he cofounded Twinpine, which began as a mobile advertising startup. Over time, Twinpine evolved into a cloud-based marketing data platform, pushing him deeper into data-driven product work.
He moved to Toronto in 2019 and joined Security Compass as a product innovation lead. There, he noticed teams using spreadsheets to manually stitch together insights, meaning people had to copy, paste, and reconcile numbers before they could act.
He later worked at Shopify as a product lead for three years. Odubanjo said the same gap showed up at a larger scale, plenty of dashboards and reports, but not enough clarity on what to do next.
That experience led him to build Insight7. The goal is to help businesses understand customers and markets, then translate findings into product and go-to-market decisions. A pivot is a major change in product direction, often after learning that early assumptions were wrong.
More African and global teams now collect data from payments, apps, support tickets, and marketing tools. The hard part is turning that data into prioritised actions that product, sales, and operations teams can agree on.
Odubanjo’s story is a reminder that analytics products are not only about charts. They are also about workflows, accountability, and making decisions easier for non-technical teams.
