Glo led Nigeria’s internet subscriber growth in May, adding 1.3 million users. It also launched Magic Data Bundles and updated the Glo Café 3.0 app.
Glo said it added about 1.3 million internet subscribers in May, the biggest net gain among Nigeria’s major telecom operators.
The company said its internet subscriber base rose from about 15.5 million in April to 16.8 million in May.
Across the industry, total internet subscribers increased from roughly 154.3 million in April to about 157 million in May. That is a net addition of around 2.67 million users.
Glo said it contributed nearly half of the industry’s net additions. Airtel Nigeria was second with around 1.07 million new internet subscribers. MTN Nigeria added 382,894.
Glo linked its growth to ongoing network modernisation and infrastructure expansion. Network modernisation means upgrading equipment and software so a telecom network can carry more data and stay stable.
The update came during activities marking Glo’s 23rd anniversary in Lagos. The company also launched a “Never Settle for Less” corporate advocacy campaign.
Glo unveiled four new products, including Welcome Bonus, Talkmasta Reloaded, Magic Data Bundles, and the revamped Glo Café 3.0 self-service app.
Under the enhanced Welcome Bonus, new customers who buy and activate a Glo SIM get benefits valued at ₦2,100. This includes 20 minutes of calls to all networks, 2GB of data, and a one-month GloTV Premium subscription.
Magic Data Bundles were also introduced with price points including ₦1,600 and ₦3,500. Glo said the plans come with bonus data ranging from 500MB to 12GB.
Internet subscriber growth is one of the clearest signs of momentum in Nigeria’s telecom market, where most revenue growth now comes from data.
If Glo’s added users stick around, it can strengthen pricing power and justify more investment in 4G and fibre backhaul, the links that move traffic between towers and the wider internet.
For startups, SMEs, and remote workers, improved data capacity can mean fewer slowdowns and better reliability for payments, cloud tools, and video calls.
