Fastjet Zimbabwe and Etihad Airways signed an MoU for an interline and codeshare deal plus frequent-flyer links, with travel starting Aug 24, 2026.
Etihad Airways and fastjet Zimbabwe have agreed on a new partnership to improve Africa and Middle East flight connections. The agreement covers an interline and codeshare setup, plus frequent-flyer benefits. Flights sold under the partnership start on August 24, 2026.
Fastjet Zimbabwe, part of Fastjet , said it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Etihad Airways on July 7, 2026.
The airlines plan to set up an interline agreement and a codeshare. Interline means a passenger can buy one ticket that covers flights on both airlines, with baggage and check-in handled end to end. Codeshare means one airline can sell seats on the other airline’s flight using its own flight number, which makes routes look “direct” inside booking systems.
The MoU also includes a frequent-flyer partnership. That is a loyalty link where travellers can earn and redeem points across both airlines, depending on how the final rules are set.
Fastjet said the goal is better connectivity for travellers moving between Zimbabwe, other African markets, and Etihad’s global network through Abu Dhabi. The companies said travel under the partnership will be available from August 24, 2026.
Codeshare and interline deals can change what travellers see when they search for flights. They can add new one-ticket itineraries, reduce missed-connection risk, and simplify baggage transfers.
For African airlines, partnerships like this can also improve distribution, which means more reach through global booking channels and corporate travel tools. For Etihad, it is a faster way to expand Africa coverage without adding new aircraft or launching new routes immediately.
For Zimbabwe’s travel market, the main impact is more routing options to long-haul destinations, and potentially better schedule choices for business and diaspora travellers.
