In Short

  • DStv says its entry-level Access package will carry every one of the 104 matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
  • The Access package costs R99 per month for streaming-only users, or R150 per month for satellite subscribers.
  • Matches will air live on SuperSport channels, with added studio coverage and replays.

What Happened

DStv has confirmed that subscribers on its Access package will be able to watch all 104 matches from the 2026 FIFA World Cup live on SuperSport.

This is a notable change for sports viewers in South Africa because the full tournament has typically required higher-tier subscriptions. The 2026 World Cup is also larger than previous editions. It expands from 32 teams to 48 teams, which increases the total match count.

DStv says the coverage will be available to both satellite customers and streaming customers. For satellite, viewers will watch through a decoder. For streaming, viewers will use the DStv Stream platform and the MyDStv app on supported devices.

SuperSport’s plans include more than just live matches. DStv says the schedule will also include match analysis (studio breakdowns of tactics and key moments), preview programmes, replays, and discussion shows.

Why It Matters

Pricing is the main story here. At R99 per month for streaming-only, DStv Access becomes a lower-cost way to follow the entire tournament without paying for a premium sports bundle.

It also raises the bar for pay TV and streaming competition across Africa, where football is a major driver of subscriptions. SuperSport said it will add more language options across the continent, including Swahili, Portuguese, and Pidgin, plus other regional languages. That can help broaden reach in multilingual markets.

For advertisers and sports media buyers, wider distribution at a lower tier could translate into bigger audiences. For fans, it reduces the trade-off between price and full-match access during what is expected to be one of the most watched global sports events in 2026.
