What Happened

A notice from the Colegio Oficial de Médicos de Málaga says new private electronic prescriptions issued via Docline have been placed under a precautionary suspension within SREP. The suspension has been in effect since September 8, 2026.

SREP is overseen by Spain’s professional councils for doctors, dentists, podiatrists, and pharmacists. These bodies also publish a list of approved prescribing platforms that can connect to the system.

The same notice highlights SREP’s design goals, patient safety and fraud prevention. It relies on traceability, meaning each electronic prescription can be tracked end to end, and uniqueness, meaning it should not be duplicated or forged.

Why It Matters

For private healthcare providers and digital health vendors, SREP is part of the trust layer for e-prescribing. “Interoperability” here means a prescription created in one private system should be fillable at any pharmacy in Spain.
