Discovery says its 2027 updates will deepen Superbank integration, add Portfolio status tiers, and boost flight and Miles rewards across products.
Discovery has announced a broad set of 2027 product and benefit updates across banking, health, insurance, investments, and employee benefits. The centrepiece is its Superbank strategy, which aims to connect more of the Discovery ecosystem into one experience.
Discovery shared its 2027 roadmap with financial advisers on 1 October 2026 in Sandton. The group said its Superbank approach will continue to link a customer’s banking, health and lifestyle activity to rewards and pricing benefits.
Discovery’s message is that behaviour in one area can affect outcomes in another. For example, healthier activity can unlock banking benefits, safer driving can reduce insurance costs and better financial decisions can lower investment fees.
A key change is the rollout of Portfolio status, a unified tiering system that recognises a customer’s overall relationship with Discovery. Customers will earn Portfolio points based on qualifying Discovery products and engagement, and move through five tiers.
Discovery said Portfolio status will combine with existing rewards across Discovery Bank and Vitality-related programmes to unlock higher travel and spend benefits. These include up to 100% off the qualifying base fare of local and international flights, and up to 45% off on “Miles D-Day” when spending with Discovery Miles partners on the 15th of each month.
The group also referenced other 2027 announcements made the same day, including medical scheme contribution changes and benefit enhancements, and a new Discovery Vitality HealthyWeight programme.
This is another example of a platform bundling strategy in African financial services. Instead of selling a standalone bank account or a standalone insurance policy, Discovery is pushing a connected model where products share data and rewards logic.
For customers, the value depends on whether the rewards are easy to understand and achievable, and whether linking products leads to better pricing, not just more complexity. For the market, it raises the bar for banks and insurers trying to compete on loyalty, engagement, and cross-product retention.
