Cauridor and BnB Sierra Leone have partnered with Orange and MTN to expand agent networks, mobile money, and cross-border digital payments in Sierra Leone.
Cauridor and BnB CashApp said they are working with Orange and MTN on a new push to expand digital payments in Sierra Leone.
The companies say the alliance will grow agent networks, meaning more physical outlets and individuals who help customers cash in and cash out, open accounts, and complete transfers. Agent networks matter in markets where many people still rely on cash and may not have easy access to bank branches.
The group also plans to make mobile money easier to use. Mobile money is a phone-based wallet that lets people store value and send money, similar to a prepaid balance but for cash.
Another focus is cross-border transfers, which are remittances and business payments that move money across countries. The partners say they will work on simplifying these flows so transfers are faster and less complex for end users.
BnB Sierra Leone is being led on the project by managing director Madani Fanta Kaba, who has a background in telecoms and risk management. The firms say they will build tailored financial services for consumers and local businesses, rather than a one-size-fits-all product.
Sierra Leone’s payments market is still building basic rails, including reliable agent coverage and mobile wallet distribution. Partnerships with established mobile network operators can speed up that rollout because telcos already have retail footprints, customer acquisition channels, and billing relationships.
If the agent expansion works, more households and small merchants could get access to day-to-day services like bill payments, merchant collections, and domestic transfers. For small businesses, easier cross-border payments can also support trade, supplier payments, and diaspora remittances, which many economies in the region depend on.
The next signal to watch is execution, including how quickly agent points scale, whether pricing drops for transfers, and whether the service becomes interoperable across networks, meaning users can send money between different wallets and operators without friction.
