Cassava Technologies is authorised to resell Anthropic Claude AI models through Amazon Bedrock, giving African organisations a local way to access Claude.
Cassava Technologies has been authorised to resell Anthropic’s Claude artificial intelligence models through Amazon Bedrock. The deal is positioned as a new access route for African businesses, governments, and institutions.
Cassava Technologies said it has been authorised to resell Anthropic’s Claude models through Amazon Bedrock, an Amazon Web Services platform for building and running generative AI applications. Generative AI is software that can create text, code, or images from prompts.
Amazon Bedrock lets organisations use AI models inside their own software and processes without building models from scratch. Through Cassava as a local technology partner, African organisations can access Claude models that can handle reasoning, image analysis, code generation, and multiple languages.
Hardy Pemhiwa, president and group chief executive of Cassava, said, “What matters to our customers is being able to use AI in their business, and that starts with access to the best models.”
Cassava said the move builds on its existing business in connectivity, cloud computing, and cybersecurity across Africa. The company also runs a data centre network that it is positioning to meet rising demand for AI services.
The firm, founded by Strive Masiyiwa, has been building out its AI infrastructure on the continent. It is deploying an Nvidia-powered “AI Factory” at its South African data centres and has launched a GPU-as-a-service offering, which is a way to rent powerful graphics processors for AI work instead of buying them.
The announcement adds another route for African organisations exploring generative AI for customer support, software development, document processing, and internal operations.
Cassava pointed to two blockers for wider adoption, access to reliable cloud infrastructure and the skills needed to deploy AI responsibly.
