PCI DSS is the rulebook that payment networks and banks expect card programs to follow. It covers areas like encryption (scrambling data so it is unreadable if stolen), access controls (who can log in and do what), monitoring (logging activity to spot abuse), and threat response (how incidents are handled).
Breet framed the certification as a major internal compliance project. The company described multiple audit cycles, documentation requests, and technical changes to meet the standard.
The certification comes as Breet works on Mastercard-powered crypto cards. The company says it plans to offer both virtual and physical cards that can be funded with crypto and used wherever Mastercard is accepted.
Crypto cards often fail or get delayed because issuing a card is not only a product problem. It is also a compliance and security problem.
For users, PCI DSS certification signals that card-related systems have been reviewed against a widely used baseline for payment security. It does not eliminate fraud risk, but it raises the bar on how sensitive card data is protected.

Breet did not share a specific launch date for the cards. It said the crypto cards are “coming” and that earlier challenges extended the timeline.
