AXG Digital, a Solowin Holdings unit, named Andrew Vickery CEO and Carsten Bressel VP to push AI and HPC data center expansion, pending funding.
AXG Digital, a subsidiary of AXG, has hired Andrew Vickery as Chief Executive Officer and Director, and Carsten Bressel as Vice President of Strategic and Business Development. The company says the roles will focus on building and financing AI infrastructure.
AI infrastructure is the physical backbone that powers AI systems, including data centers, servers, networking, and reliable electricity supply. AXG Digital is targeting high-performance computing, or HPC, which is the kind of heavy-duty computing used for training and running large AI models.
Vickery is expected to lead development, financing, and execution of AXG Digital’s AI and digital infrastructure strategy. The company highlighted his background in project finance and infrastructure, including work across Europe and Asia.
Bressel will focus on strategic deals, partnerships, joint ventures, project development, and capital formation. Capital formation is the process of raising money for projects, through equity, debt, or structured financing.
AXG previously said it is targeting more than 100 megawatts of operational HPC capacity by 2028, with a pipeline of over 1 gigawatt across Europe, the United States, and sub-Arctic markets. For context, megawatts measure power capacity, and data centers are often limited more by power access than by land.
For African founders and operators watching global compute markets, this is another signal that AI capacity is becoming an infrastructure race, not just a software story. More power-backed data centers can shape where AI products are built, hosted, and priced.
The funding caveat is important. AXG Digital says the appointments are subject to the availability of funding for identified projects, which means timelines and locations could shift if capital markets tighten.
If AXG Digital successfully locks in power, sites, and long-term customers, it could compete for enterprise AI workloads, including model training and inference, which is the day-to-day running of AI models in production.
