Why did Driva shut down?

Driva was a Ghanaian ride-hailing service that operated in the wave of locally owned competitors which appeared after Uber launched in Accra in 2016. Tech Labari's October 2022 survey of the Ghanaian ride-sharing market named Driva alongside Enshika, Dropyn and Uru as early entrants, and noted that by 2022 many of that cohort had 'either died or exited the market'. No source located reports a founding date, a founder, any funding, or a specific closure, and the fields for those are left empty.

What Driva attempted

A ride-booking service for Ghana with a driver-facing loyalty programme. GhanaDriver's listing describes a scheme under which drivers accumulate reward points redeemable for cash, home gifts and travel, monthly cash rewards, a company uniform and ID issued after registration and initial training, and supervisory positions for the best-performing drivers. Its driver sign-in ran at drivaonline.com.

Early warning signs

Tech Labari's October 2022 market review listed Driva among the post-Uber 'copycat' competitors and said many of them had by then died or exited the market.

What happened

The company's driver portal domain has been dropped: on 2 August 2026 Google Public DNS returned NXDOMAIN for drivaonline.com, with only the .com TLD SOA in the authority section. The Internet Archive's most recent capture of drivaonline.com is 20 May 2024. Search engines still index a 'Driva Cab' result pointing at drivaonline.com, but the domain no longer exists, so the indexed entry is stale.

Lessons for future builders

Entering a market because others just did is not a strategy, and Driva left so little record that nobody can say what it tried. If a company's whole public trace is a mention in someone else's market survey, it never built an audience of its own.
