MTN Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers opened talks on investor education, financial literacy, and digital tools to widen capital market access.
MTN Nigeria and the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers (CIS) have started talks on a partnership. The goal is to support Nigeria’s capital market through investor education, skills development, and digital access.
MTN Nigeria held a high-level meeting with leaders of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers to discuss joint market development activities. The meeting took place at MTN’s head office in Ikoyi, Lagos.
CIS said the engagement is focused on improving investor education and professional capacity building, which means training market professionals and helping everyday people understand investing basics. The group also discussed financial literacy, which is simple money knowledge like saving, budgeting, and understanding risks.
Another topic was digital transformation, which in this context means using technology to make market learning and participation easier, like online training and digital investor outreach. CIS and MTN Nigeria also discussed initiatives to expand access to the Nigerian capital market, which is the system where people buy and sell securities like shares and bonds.
MTN executives at the meeting included the company’s chief operating officer, chief financial officer, and executive company secretary. CIS also congratulated MTN on its 25th anniversary and presented an appreciation plaque.
CIS is signaling that capital market growth in Nigeria will increasingly depend on large consumer and enterprise platforms, including telecom operators. Telcos already run wide distribution networks and digital channels, which can support financial education at scale.
For the market, the bigger story is the intersection of telecoms, financial services, and capital markets. If talks move from strategy to execution, it could lead to more digital investor education programs and new ways for Nigerians to learn about and access investing.
For MTN, it is another step in positioning the business as more than connectivity. It also sits alongside the company’s broader push into digital services across Nigeria.
