Ilorin Innovation Hub and IHS Nigeria held a first Demo Day in Ilorin, showcasing 19 startups to investors and pitching Kwara as Nigeria’s next tech base.
The Ilorin Innovation Hub, backed by IHS Nigeria and the Kwara State Government, held its maiden Demo Day themed “The Convergence”. The event showcased 19 startups from the hub’s first accelerator and incubation cohort.
The startups work across agriculture, healthtech, green energy, lifestyle and other digital services. Demo Days are pitch events where founders present their products and traction to potential funders and partners.
The hub began operations in February 2025. Its programmes are managed by Co-creation Hub and Future Africa. It spans over 13,000 square metres and has seating for more than 1,000 users.
From more than 50 startups in the first cohort, 19 were selected as “market-ready” to pitch, with nine from the accelerator and ten from the incubator. An accelerator is a fixed-time program that helps startups grow fast, while an incubator is longer-term support for early ideas.
Nigeria’s tech ecosystem is still heavily concentrated in Lagos. The Ilorin Innovation Hub is positioning Kwara as an alternative base by combining physical infrastructure with training, community events and investor access.
The hub reported training 171 AI engineers, running 50+ community-led events and engaging 5,000+ participants in entrepreneurship and technical training. It also recorded 20,000+ physical visits.
For investors and operators, this is a signal to watch talent and deal flow in Kwara. For founders, it suggests more local options for mentorship, pilots and early commercialisation outside the major hubs.
