Africa’s Business Heroes picked 20 entrepreneurs for its 2026 semi-final in Nairobi, including Zuri Health founder Ikechukwu Anoke.
Africa’s Business Heroes announced 20 entrepreneurs advancing to its 2026 semi-final in Nairobi. The pitches are set for 21 to 22 August 2026.
Africa’s Business Heroes announced its Top 20 cohort for 2026. Africa’s Business Heroes is a philanthropic prize competition backed by Alibaba Philanthropy.
The Top 20 were selected from an expanded Top 100 cohort. The organisers said they received more than 24,000 applications from all 54 African countries.
Selection included interviews with three-person judging panels. Judges assessed leadership, impact, scalability, and commercial strength. “Scalability” means the business can grow revenue without costs rising at the same pace.
ABH also used on-the-ground site visits and due diligence. Due diligence is a formal background and business check, similar to an investor verification process. PlusVC conducted the due diligence work, according to the release.
The Top 20 represent 12 African countries and 11 sectors. Sectors listed include agriculture and agritech, healthcare, manufacturing, climate technology, financial services, education, energy, and technology. Eight of the 20 founders are women, which ABH put at 40% of the cohort.
ABH said the cohort’s businesses generated about $85 million in 2025. The semi-finalists will pitch in Nairobi in late August for a chance to progress further in the competition.
One of the selected founders is Ikechukwu Anoke, founder of Zuri Health. Zuri Health Ltd operates in digital healthcare, a segment often grouped under health tech and telemedicine.
ABH also announced a second “learning and market-access” trip to Hangzhou, China, from 14 to 18 September. It expects around 40 participants, including recent Top 10 winners and alumni.
ABH remains a visible channel for African founders to access capital and networks. Its emphasis on site visits can reduce the gap between strong pitch decks and real operational execution.
For health tech startups like Zuri Health, making the ABH Top 20 can help with credibility in fundraising and partnerships. It can also increase exposure to investors looking for proven revenue and impact across African markets.
Nairobi hosting the semi-final again also keeps Kenya in focus as a hub for pan-African startup events. That matters for founders and operators tracking where deal flow, talent, and ecosystem support are concentrating.
