MoMo Rwanda says users transacted RWF 14 trillion across 803 million payments in Q1 2026, as revenue hit RWF 43 billion and agents grew.
MoMo Rwanda says it processed RWF 14 trillion in total transaction value across 803 million transactions in Rwanda in Q1 2026, with quarterly revenue of RWF 43 billion.
Mobile Money Rwanda Ltd, known as MoMo Rwanda, shared quarterly financial results showing continued growth in mobile money usage. Mobile money is a wallet on your phone that lets you send, receive, and pay without a bank card.
The company reported RWF 14 trillion in transaction value and 803 million transactions for the quarter. It also reported revenue of RWF 43 billion, which it said was supported by activity across mobile money and merchant payments.
MoMo Rwanda said its merchant product, MoMoPay, now serves more than 4 million users. Merchant payments are transactions where customers pay a business, like scanning a code or entering a merchant number instead of sending money to another person.
The company said customers are using more services beyond peer to peer transfers. It pointed to credit, bank integrations, and remittances, meaning money sent across borders.
MoMo Rwanda also said its agent network grew 13% year on year to 74,000 agents. Agents are local cash in and cash out points, similar to mini branches that help people convert cash to mobile money and back.
On products, MoMo Rwanda introduced MoFlex, a credit product built with Ecobank and Yabx. Credit products let eligible users borrow small amounts and repay later through the wallet.
The numbers show how central mobile money has become to Rwanda’s day to day commerce, from personal transfers to business payments. High transaction volumes also suggest that reliability, fraud controls, and agent liquidity will matter as much as new features.
MoMo Rwanda’s push into credit and bank links is also a common playbook across African fintech. Payments can be the entry point, but lending and integrations often drive higher revenue per user.
A larger agent network can improve access outside major cities, but it also increases operational complexity. For founders building on top of mobile money rails, MoMo Rwanda’s scale strengthens the case for merchant tools, bill payments, and remittance services that meet users where they already transact.
