Climate Edge
Solutions for farmers and suppliers
Epitaph
โHere lies Climate Edge. It carried soil data, planting calendars and market prices to 150,000 smallholder farmers over SMS and voice, no smartphone required. Around 2023 the updates simply stopped and the signal went quiet. The domain now belongs to someone else.โ

Autopsy report
Why did Climate Edge shut down?
Climate Edge, a Kenyan agri-tech startup that gave smallholder farmers SMS/IVR-based agronomic advisory and connected them with agribusinesses, went dark sometime around early-to-mid 2023 without any public shutdown announcement; its website and social media accounts stopped being updated and the domain was later repurposed by an unrelated site.
What Climate Edge attempted
Climate Edge built a farmer-CRM/communications platform that delivered agricultural information (soil data, fertilizer recommendations, planting calendars, market pricing) via bulk SMS and interactive voice response to smallholder farmers with limited internet access in Kenya and Tanzania, and supplied risk-assessment data to lenders.
What worked
Raised a $500K seed round in May 2022 led by Regenerate Ventures, and reported partnerships with over 700 agricultural value-chain organizations reaching roughly 150,000 farmers across Kenya and Tanzania.
What happened
No shutdown announcement, funding news, or press coverage of a closure has been found; the company's website and social channels simply stopped being updated around 2023, and the climate-edge.com domain now redirects to an unrelated site, consistent with the company having quietly ceased operations.
Lessons for future builders
- Reaching many farmers over cheap channels proves demand, not a business. Pin down who actually pays, whether lenders, agribusinesses, or farmers, and prove that revenue covers the cost of each message before scaling the network wider.
