## Content

## In Short
YouCan is adding new AI and workflow features for merchants. The headline change is MCP connections that let compatible AI assistants work with a YouCan store after the owner approves access.

## What Happened
In its October 8 newsletter, [YouCan](/youcan) announced that merchants can connect their YouCan store to AI assistants using MCP, short for Model Context Protocol. MCP is a standard way for an AI tool to securely “plug into” a business system, similar to giving a trusted app permission to access parts of your account.

After a store owner authorises the connection, an AI assistant can carry out common admin tasks through chat. YouCan says this includes creating and updating products, prices, variants, and stock. It also covers searching and updating orders, managing shipping, finding customer profiles, and editing store content like coupons, categories, menus, upsells, and reviews. Merchants can also create or update pages, preview them, and use images already stored in the shop.

Alongside MCP, YouCan shared several product updates aimed at reducing repetitive work for store operators.

One update is a refreshed Theme Editor. YouCan says it now has search bars for faster navigation, clearer separation of global sections like header and footer, easier section reordering, and a cleaner layout with settings in a dedicated sidebar.

Another update is AskMe, a new FAQ app that lets merchants add question and answer blocks directly in the theme, including an optional floating button so shoppers can find answers while browsing.

Finally, YouCan says it is preparing mobile app improvements for orders, products, customers, dashboards, and store management, so merchants can handle more day-to-day tasks from a phone.

## Why It Matters
For many African merchants, store operations are still managed by small teams. An MCP connection could make AI assistants more useful by letting them take direct actions inside the store, instead of only drafting text. The added FAQ and editor changes also point to a broader push to improve conversion and support, without adding more back office tools.
