## Content

## In Short
- Yellow Card says it reports suspicious transfers on its platform to Nigeria’s Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU.
- The company says it self-regulates to prevent fraud and to stay compliant.
- Yellow Card says its new $40 million funding will expand Global USD Accounts and its stablecoin payment rails.

## What Happened
Yellow Card, a stablecoin infrastructure and payments provider, said it reports suspicious transfers and payments on its platform to Nigeria’s Financial Intelligence Unit. Stablecoins are crypto tokens designed to track a stable currency like the US dollar, they are often used for cross-border payments.

Speaking at a media briefing in Lagos, the company’s Nigeria managing director, Lasbery Oludimu, said Yellow Card reports suspicious activity even when the agency is not already aware of it. He added that the firm does not want its systems used for fraudulent transfers.

The comments come as [Yellow Card](/yellow-card) pushes global expansion after a $40 million strategic funding round. The company said it now operates across more than 50 markets, including Nigeria, and has raised more than $120 million in total equity financing.

Yellow Card said the new funding will support growth of “Global USD Accounts”, a dollar account product for businesses. It also plans to strengthen stablecoin rails, meaning the back-end connections that move value between countries and partners.

The company also pointed to regulatory progress in Switzerland. It said it secured an anti-money laundering, AML affiliation as a supervised financial intermediary, which can make it easier for banking partners and institutional clients to work with its stablecoin infrastructure.

## Why It Matters
Nigeria’s regulators have increased scrutiny of crypto-linked activity, especially where it touches payments, foreign exchange, and fraud risks. For stablecoin payment providers, proactive reporting and strong compliance controls can help preserve access to bank partners and keep cross-border corridors open.

For African businesses, the bigger story is product reliability. If Global USD Accounts and stablecoin rails scale with tighter AML reporting, more companies may use stablecoins as a practical tool for treasury, supplier payments, and international commerce, not just as a trading asset.
