## Content

## In Short
Yellow Card has been accepted into the second cohort of Ghana’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulatory sandbox for virtual asset service providers.

## What Happened
Yellow Card said it has been admitted into Ghana SEC’s regulatory sandbox, a supervised testing programme for crypto and digital asset firms. Yellow Card is positioning this as part of its longer-term commitment to Ghana’s developing virtual asset rules.

The sandbox sits under Ghana’s Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) Act, which was passed in December 2025. The SEC launched its first sandbox cohort in March 2026 as a 12-month pilot. Yellow Card joined the second cohort alongside nine other participants, and expects to work with both the SEC and the Bank of Ghana as the country finalises its licensing framework.

In practical terms, the sandbox should allow Yellow Card to test stablecoin-based payment rails in Ghana under regulator oversight. Stablecoins are cryptocurrencies designed to track a stable value, often the US dollar. Yellow Card says this includes stablecoin payments, fiat settlement, and wallet infrastructure, in partnership with local banks, payment networks, and enterprise customers.

On its broader compliance strategy, the company said Ghana adds to its growing portfolio of regulatory approvals. It also pointed to having secured what it describes as the first VASP licence issued in Africa, in Botswana.

## Why It Matters
Ghana is a major hub for cross-border commerce in West Africa, and stablecoin settlement is increasingly used for faster and more predictable transfers than correspondent banking (a chain of banks moving money across borders). If sandbox tests go well, Yellow Card could be better placed for a future full licence, and for serving businesses that need treasury and B2B payment tools.

For Ghana’s regulators, more sandbox participants can help pressure-test the VASP Act and clarify licensing requirements before the market scales. For founders and operators building in crypto and fintech, it is another signal that regulated paths for virtual asset services in Ghana are becoming more defined.
