## Content

## In Short
XenFi is a Ugandan startup building software for internet service providers and Wi Fi hotspot operators.

It helps operators sell internet access, manage customers, and collect payments through mobile money from one platform.

The company says it is already profitable, is self funded by its founders, and employs more than 100 people.

## What Happened: How XenFi Runs Hotspot Billing And Router Management
XenFi says it has built a hotspot billing and management platform that lets operators monitor transactions and manage multiple MikroTik routers from a centralised dashboard.

The company’s CEO, Charles Wasswa, said many hotspot operators need to manage access, sell vouchers, collect payments, monitor revenue, and administer multiple routers. He said doing that with disconnected tools or manual systems can make it harder to track transactions, maintain operational efficiency, and scale.

Wasswa said XenFi brings these functions together through a centralised platform that supports mobile money payments and simplifies hotspot business management.

XenFi is self funded by its founders. Wasswa said starting without external investors forced discipline in how the company allocated resources, developed its technology, and acquired customers.

The startup says it serves approximately 6,000 active users in Uganda. It also says it has customers in close to 15 African countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and Gabon, and that it has set up a physical presence in Kenya.

XenFi says it makes money through platform charges and billing and transaction fees, which vary by service and market.

## Why It Matters: Payments And Local Market Fit
XenFi says it competes with international hotspot billing platforms, regional providers, locally developed billing tools, and operators still using manual systems.

Wasswa said the company stands out through its focus on African market needs, payment integration, and ease of use.

He also said expansion is complex because payment systems, customer expectations, connectivity infrastructure, and regulatory requirements differ by country. XenFi says it is focusing on product reliability, customer support, and continuous improvement.

XenFi now plans to deepen its presence in existing markets, strengthen local partnerships, and expand into more African countries.
