Wave has started rolling out an auto insurance feature in Côte d’Ivoire. Some users can already see it in the app, and access is expected to expand over time.

## What Happened
[Wave](/wave) users in Côte d’Ivoire are beginning to see a new section for car insurance inside the mobile money app.

From that screen, drivers can request a quote in minutes, buy a policy from their phone, and receive a digital insurance certificate. A digital certificate is an electronic document that can be shown on a phone instead of paper.

The flow also includes online claims management. Claims are the steps you take to report an accident or damage and request payout from an insurer.

Wave has not made a formal public announcement in Côte d’Ivoire, but the feature’s appearance in the app suggests the rollout is already underway for a limited group.

The move follows Wave’s earlier partnership with [Baloon](/baloon), an insurtech, announced for Senegal in March 2026. Insurtech means insurance sold and managed through software, similar to how fintech delivers banking services.

## Why It Matters
Auto insurance can be paperwork-heavy in West Africa, and it often requires in-person visits. Embedding quotes, purchase, certificates, and claims into a widely used payments app could reduce friction and shorten turnaround times.

For Wave, this is another step in expanding beyond payments and transfers into broader financial services. For Baloon, Wave’s distribution could bring insurance to users who already trust the app for everyday transactions.

If the rollout scales across Côte d’Ivoire, it adds momentum to the wider trend of fintech and insurance products converging inside one app, especially in francophone West Africa.
