## What Happened
[Vodacom](/vodacom) said its board has appointed Leila Fourie as an alternate director to the chairman, Saki Macozoma, effective October 9, 2026. An alternate director is a stand-in who can attend board meetings and vote when the main director cannot.

Fourie will hold the role until Macozoma’s planned retirement on July 20, 2027. After that date, Vodacom said she will be appointed as a full member of the board.

Fourie most recently served as chief executive officer of the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, a public market operator that runs the main stock exchange in South Africa, from 2019 to 2026. Vodacom highlighted her background across payments, retail banking, investment banking, and capital markets, plus board roles in sustainability and governance.

Vodacom also updated its board committee line-up. From October 9, 2026, Fourie will join the Nomination Committee and the Remuneration Committee, which oversee leadership appointments and executive pay.
