## Content

## In Short
- Vercel has acquired Stakpak, an Egyptian-founded startup building autonomous DevOps agents.
- It is Vercel’s second acquisition of an African-founded company in July 2026.
- Deal terms were not disclosed, and the Stakpak team will join Vercel.

## What Happened
Vercel has acquired Stakpak, an Egyptian-founded DevOps platform focused on autonomous agents. Vercel is a cloud platform best known for hosting web apps built with Next.js, and for tools that help teams deploy code quickly.

Stakpak, founded in 2022 by CEO George Fahmy, builds AI-powered DevOps agents. DevOps is the work of managing cloud infrastructure and software releases, like keeping servers, deployments, and monitoring running smoothly. An “autonomous agent” here means software that can take actions on its own, similar to a junior engineer following instructions, but inside a controlled system.

Stakpak says its agent can complete tasks faster than a developer doing them manually, with one example being a four-hour task done in about 50 minutes. The startup raised a $500,000 pre-seed round in 2025, led by P1 Ventures.

The acquisition comes a week after Vercel confirmed it bought Better Auth, founded by Ethiopian developer Bereket Engida. Vercel did not share financial terms for either deal.

## Why It Matters
Vercel is positioning itself as an infrastructure layer for “agentic” software, meaning apps where AI agents do more of the work beyond chat and suggestions. For this to work, those agents still need basics like deployment, authentication, and operational guardrails.

Better Auth strengthens identity and access for agents, and Stakpak adds experience running DevOps agents in production environments, meaning real systems used by teams, not demos. For African builders, it is another signal that global developer platforms are actively buying talent and products built by African-founded teams, especially in developer tools and AI operations.
