## Content

## In Short
- TTCL says it won the international “Best Application of FTTH Construction” award at the Ultra-Broadband Forum (UBBF) 2026.
- The forum ran from October 12 to 14, 2026, in Vienna, Austria.
- TTCL says its FTTH rollout now reaches 280,000 “homes passed”, meaning fibre is available to connect those households.

## What Happened
Tanzania Telecommunications Corporation, also known as [TTCL](/ttcl), says it received an international award for its work deploying Fibre to the Home, or FTTH. FTTH is a fixed broadband setup where fibre optic cable runs directly to a house, like giving a building its own fast data pipe.

TTCL reported the award on October 15, 2026, after the Ultra-Broadband Forum 2026 event in Vienna. The award category was “Best Application of FTTH Construction”, which points to construction quality and delivery standards for fibre infrastructure.

TTCL linked the recognition to its “Faiba Mlangoni Kwako” programme, which is focused on expanding high speed internet access for households, institutions, and businesses in Tanzania. The telco said it has deployed FTTH infrastructure covering 280,000 homes passed in 2026.

The company also pointed to practical use cases for faster home internet, including online learning, digital work, and entertainment. For businesses and public institutions, FTTH can support cloud apps, stable video calls, and faster access to online services.

## Why It Matters
Awards do not always translate into better service, but FTTH build quality matters because it affects uptime, installation speed, and long term maintenance costs. Strong execution can also shorten the time from “homes passed” to actual active connections.

For Tanzania’s digital economy, wider fibre coverage can improve reliability for SMEs, schools, and government offices that depend on stable connectivity. It can also reduce pressure on mobile networks for heavy data use at home.

If TTCL continues expanding FTTH and converting coverage into subscriptions, it could help raise baseline broadband speeds in the market and push more services online, from payments to education and remote work.
