## Content

## In Short
- Swvl has signed a definitive agreement for a $13 million private placement, also called a PIPE.
- Coefficient LP is putting in $10 million, with another $3 million coming from an existing shareholder.
- Swvl plans to use the money for US expansion, a lending offer for transport operators, and balance sheet support.

## What Happened
[Swvl](/swvl) said it will raise $13 million through a private investment in public equity, or PIPE, which is a funding round where investors buy shares in a public company outside the open market.

The round is led by Coefficient LP, a Houston-based investment firm backed by Egypt’s Sawiris family. Coefficient committed $10 million and will become Swvl’s largest institutional shareholder after the deal closes. An existing shareholder is adding $3 million.

Swvl plans to issue 8,990,317 Class A shares at $1.446 per share. The company expects the transaction to close on August 27, 2026, subject to standard closing conditions.

As part of the deal, Abdalla Ali, founder and managing partner of Coefficient, will join Swvl’s board.

Swvl also shared recent operating metrics. It said Q1 2026 revenue rose 68% year over year to $8.2 million, with Gulf Cooperation Council revenue up 111%. It added that recurring revenue was 88% of total and operating expenses fell to 23% of revenue as it approaches operating breakeven, meaning its core business is getting close to covering its own costs.

## Why It Matters
For African-founded public tech companies, PIPE rounds can be a practical way to raise capital without running a full public offering. They also bring in long-term shareholders who can support strategy and governance.

Swvl’s stated use of proceeds signals a push to build a bigger presence in the US, while also adding a lending product for transport operators in its network. If executed well, this could strengthen supply reliability, since operators often need working capital to keep vehicles running.

The mix of US-based capital and an Egypt-linked backer may also help Swvl bridge relationships across its existing MENA footprint and its US growth plans.
