## Content

## In Short
Standard Chartered Bank AG has appointed Darren Ellis to its Supervisory Board. The appointment takes effect immediately. The board now has eight members.

## What Happened
Standard Chartered Bank AG, Standard Chartered’s EU hub, said Darren Ellis has joined its Supervisory Board as a non-executive director.

A non-executive director is a board member who does not run daily operations. Instead, they help oversee strategy, risk, and governance, which is how a company is directed and controlled.

Ellis is Standard Chartered’s Chief Financial Officer for Europe and the UK, the Americas, Africa and the Middle East. He is a Chartered Accountant and has more than 20 years of experience in financial services. His previous roles include senior finance leadership positions at Deutsche Bank, Commerzbank, Barclays and Deloitte.

Standard Chartered said its German banking unit plays a central role in serving corporate and institutional clients across Europe. It also connects these clients to the group’s global network and cross-border capabilities, which are services that support international trade, payments, and financing across countries.

## Why It Matters
For African founders and operators, leadership moves at Standard Chartered matter because the bank is a key partner in cross-border banking and trade flows between Africa, Europe, and other markets.

Board oversight at the EU hub can shape how the group manages risk, capital, and compliance in Europe. These decisions can affect product appetite for international businesses, including access to trade finance, foreign exchange, and multicurrency accounts.

It is also a signal that the bank is strengthening governance at a time when regulators in Europe are focused on resilience, controls, and transparency in banking operations.
