## Content

## In Short
SportyTV and KBC have secured rights to show 34 FIFA World Cup 2026 matches in Kenya.
The games will air free-to-air on TV, with extra access via digital platforms.
The package includes the tournament opener and the final.

## What Happened
SportyTV and the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) announced a partnership to broadcast selected FIFA World Cup 2026 fixtures.

The deal covers 34 matches. That includes 17 group-stage games and 17 knockout-stage fixtures. The broadcasters said the package includes the opening match and the FIFA World Cup final.

Matches will be shown on KBC Channel 1 and on [SportyTV](/sporty-tv) as live free-to-air coverage. That means viewers can watch without a paid TV subscription.

The broadcasters also plan to stream the matches on digital platforms. Access will be geo-blocked, meaning only people located in Kenya can watch online.

Alongside live games, KBC and SportyTV said they will add programming such as previews, highlights, player and team profiles, and match analysis.

The 2026 tournament will be hosted across Mexico, Canada, and the United States. It is set to be the largest World Cup so far, with 48 teams and 104 matches.

## Why It Matters
Broadcast rights are a key part of sports media economics. They decide whether mass audiences can watch major events for free, or only through pay TV.

For Kenyan fans, the partnership expands access to big fixtures, especially the opener and the final. It also creates more inventory for advertisers, since free-to-air broadcasts often attract large audiences.

There is one practical catch. Due to time zone differences, some games will fall in late-night or early-morning hours in Kenya, which could affect viewership patterns and how people watch.
