## Content

## In Short
COVA and Maviance have added auto insurance subscription and premium payments to Smobilpay in Cameroon.

## What Happened
Smobilpay is adding a new service for drivers in Cameroon, auto insurance sign-up and premium payment.

COVA, a digital insurance broker, and Maviance, the company behind Smobilpay, announced the integration on September 7, 2026. Drivers can now buy or renew motor insurance and pay premiums through Smobilpay-enabled multiservice points. Those points are agent locations that already handle everyday transactions like bill payments.

The companies say the offer covers cars, motorcycles, and trucks. This gives COVA another distribution channel, alongside the bank, microfinance, telecom, and fintech networks it already targets. A distribution channel is simply the route a product uses to reach customers, like bank branches, mobile apps, or agent networks.

The partnership also includes a business-focused option. Companies will be able to centralise payments for insurance premiums covering staff and vehicle fleets within Maviance’s platform. Smobilpay agents are expected to earn income from these new transactions, but the firms did not share commission rates or how revenue will be split.

## Why It Matters
Motor insurance is mandatory for many vehicles, but buying and renewing policies can still be paperwork-heavy. Putting subscription and premium payment into a payment agent network can make compliance easier for drivers, especially outside major cities.

The timing also matters because Cameroon’s insurance sector is preparing to digitise proof of motor insurance. COVA and Maviance say their setup can support digital verification during road checks, using a vehicle’s number plate. That could reduce fake certificates and simplify enforcement, if regulators and insurers align on standards and access.

For Maviance, adding insurance is another way to increase transaction volume on Smobilpay. For COVA, it is a practical move to meet customers where they already pay for services, at local agent points.
