SiGMA Africa Startup Pitch has opened applications for its 2027 edition. The live pitch event is set for February 17, 2027 in Cape Town. Applications close on January 6.

## What Happened
SiGMA Africa Startup Pitch is taking applications from early-stage African startups ahead of the SiGMA Africa Summit in Cape Town.

Organisers expect more than 100 startups to take part in the Startup Village, which is the exhibition area where founders can meet investors and partners in person. From that group, six startups will be selected to pitch live on stage.

The programme targets companies in sectors tied to gaming, payments, fintech, blockchain, esports, artificial intelligence, and other digital services. Seed to Series A startups are the main focus, which usually means businesses that have raised early funding and are still building product and revenue.

After applications close on January 6, a shortlist is expected later in January. Selected companies will then submit pitch decks, which are slide presentations used to explain the business to investors.

## Why It Matters
For many startups, pitch competitions are less about prizes and more about access. The SiGMA Africa Startup Pitch puts founders in front of venture capital investors, executives, and potential commercial partners without requiring travel to Europe or the Middle East.

Still, participation does not guarantee funding. Any investment would depend on follow-up conversations and negotiations after the event.

For African startups building in gaming and fintech, the event is another route into an international network where deal flow often starts with warm introductions and face-to-face meetings.
