## Content

## In Short
- SeerBit has integrated PayPal for merchants in its supported African markets.
- Shoppers can now choose PayPal at checkout alongside cards, bank transfers, and mobile money.
- Merchants can manage these payments in one place and receive international payments in real time.

## What Happened
[SeerBit](/seerbit) says it has integrated PayPal, allowing African merchants using its payment gateway to accept PayPal payments at checkout. A payment gateway is the software that connects an online store to payment methods, like a digital card machine for the internet.

With the update, customers paying on SeerBit-powered sites can select PayPal next to card payments, bank transfers, and mobile money. Merchants can view and manage the transactions through a single system, instead of reconciling different payment providers.

SeerBit says the PayPal option can improve buyer confidence and reduce cart abandonment, which is when a shopper leaves without completing payment. It also says the integration supports better conversion rates, meaning more completed purchases from the same site traffic.

In the announcement, SeerBit CEO Omoniyi Kolade said African businesses often lack access to trusted payment options used by international customers. PayPal’s Amir Valliani, VP for Global Markets, said the partnership is aimed at helping merchants reach more international buyers and grow beyond local markets.

## Why It Matters
Cross-border e-commerce is growing across Africa, but many online businesses still face limited payment options for international customers. Adding PayPal can help merchants sell to diaspora buyers and global consumers who already store card or bank details in a PayPal wallet.

It also highlights a bigger shift in African fintech. More payment companies are focusing on interoperability, meaning different payment systems working together smoothly, as trade and online services expand across borders.

SeerBit also linked the move to AfCFTA, the African Continental Free Trade Area, where easier digital payments can help businesses trade across African markets with less friction.
