## Content

## In Short
- SafeBoda says SafeCar has completed over 3 million trips in Uganda since launching in September 2022.
- The service says it now works with more than 15,000 car drivers.
- SafeCar positions itself around fixed in-app prices, no fare bargaining, and local customer support.

## What Happened
[SafeBoda](/safeboda) marked four years of its SafeCar car-hailing service in Uganda, sharing updated operating numbers and product choices it says were shaped by commuter feedback.

SafeCar launched in Kampala in September 2022 as SafeBoda expanded beyond motorcycle taxis. The company says it built the service for trips where a boda is less practical, including group rides, late-night travel, airport runs, and shopping.

A key product promise is “zero tolerance” for fare negotiation. That means the rider sees a price in the app and the driver is expected to accept it, instead of asking for extra cash at the end of the trip.

SafeCar also says it does not use surge pricing, which is a demand-based price increase (like raising fares during heavy rain or big events). The company argues this improves price predictability for customers.

On safety and trust, SafeCar says trips are traceable and can be shared with friends or family. It also points to local customer support, including 24/7 assistance and a walk-in centre at the SafeBoda Academy in Kyebando, Kampala.

For driver supply, SafeCar says its onboarding includes vehicle inspections, document checks, background checks, and training on app use, customer service, and road safety.

## Why It Matters
Uganda’s ride-hailing market depends on trust between riders, drivers, and platforms. Fare disputes can turn a digital booking into a manual negotiation, which hurts confidence and repeat usage.

SafeCar’s approach highlights a wider trend in African mobility platforms, reliability and support can be as important as app features. If SafeBoda can enforce fixed pricing while keeping driver earnings viable, it could strengthen its position in Kampala’s car-hailing and gig economy.
