## Content

## In Short
Prudential reported fresh share buybacks between October 5 and October 9, 2026. The insurer bought just under 4 million shares and said it will cancel them.

## What Happened
[Prudential](/prudential) said it repurchased 3,990,793 ordinary shares over five trading days on the London Stock Exchange.

The purchases were executed through JP Morgan Securities plc as on-exchange transactions. That means the trades happened in the open market, similar to any other share trade, rather than in a private deal.

Prudential disclosed the daily volumes and prices. The company bought between 787,614 and 817,174 shares per day. The volume-weighted average prices ranged from 8.8304 to 9.2517 pounds per share.

Prudential said it intends to cancel the repurchased shares. Share cancellation reduces the total number of shares in issue, instead of holding the shares as treasury stock.

After the cancellation plan, Prudential said it will have 2,473,996,928 shares in issue. It also said the total number of voting rights will match that figure, which matters for shareholder disclosure thresholds under UK rules.

Prudential added that cumulative buybacks under the programmes announced in January 2026 and September 2026 have reached 79,950,041 shares in aggregate.

## Why It Matters
Share buybacks are one way listed companies return capital to shareholders. By reducing the number of shares outstanding, buybacks can increase earnings per share, assuming profits stay the same.

For African and Asian markets where Prudential operates, including Africa, the update is a reminder that the group is actively managing its capital base while remaining a dual-listed stock across Hong Kong and London.

It also signals that Prudential is sticking to its previously announced buyback arrangements, with ongoing reporting across the exchanges where it is listed.
