## What Happened
[Prudential](/prudential), the life and health insurer with operations that include Africa, said Adrian de Souza has been appointed Company Secretary.

A company secretary is a senior governance role. It helps the board and leadership stay compliant with listing rules, corporate law, filings, and internal decision processes.

De Souza is a solicitor qualified in England and Wales. Prudential said he has more than 30 years of experience in legal, governance, and company secretarial work across listed companies and financial institutions.

His most recent role was Group Company Secretary at [Standard Chartered Bank](/standard-chartered-bank). Tom Clarkson steps down from the Company Secretary role as part of the handover.
