## Content

## In Short
- Prembly hosted its Fraud Intelligence Summit 2026 on July 23, 2026, in collaboration with MTN Nigeria.
- The focus was on AI-enabled, cross-border fraud and why banks, fintechs, telcos, and regulators need shared defences.
- Speakers called for real-time fraud intelligence to cut incident resolution from 30 to 60 minutes down to faster response.

## What Happened
Prembly’s Fraud Intelligence Summit 2026 brought together leaders from financial services, technology, telecoms, regulation, and compliance to discuss how fraud is changing. Prembly said fraud is increasingly AI-enabled, meaning attackers use machine learning tools to scale scams and adapt quickly. The event was held with MTN Nigeria.

A key theme was “Collaboration Over Competition: Building an Anti-Fraud Ecosystem.” Participants discussed how fraud is now borderless, with tactics that can move across markets. Prembly CEO Lanre Ogungbe said identity fraud is getting more sophisticated, and that traditional KYC, meaning Know Your Customer identity checks, is no longer enough on its own.

Ogungbe pointed to examples like duplicate identities, document abuse, and location spoofing through VPNs, meaning tools that mask a user’s real location. He also described edge cases such as identical twins using switched identities during onboarding to bypass standard verification.

The summit’s main proposal was cross-institution fraud intelligence sharing in real time. The goal is to stop a fraud method that works at one bank or fintech from being repeated across others.

Central Bank of Nigeria IT director Omoyemen Jide-Samuel, speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor for Operations, warned that AI is contributing to rising fraud in the financial sector. She framed fraud as a business continuity risk, meaning it can directly threaten day-to-day operations.

## Why It Matters
For African fintech and digital banking, faster fraud response is becoming as important as faster payments. If fraud investigation still takes 30 to 60 minutes, attackers can move funds across accounts and institutions before controls catch up.

Real-time data sharing across banks, fintechs, and telcos could help detect patterns like repeated device use, SIM-related signals, and suspicious onboarding activity earlier. But it also raises practical questions about governance, privacy, liability, and who gets access to what data.

For identity and compliance teams, the message is clear. Stronger KYC needs to be paired with shared signals, continuous monitoring, and coordinated incident response across the ecosystem. On Liners, related identity tools include [Prembly](/prembly) and [MTN](/mtn).
