## What Happened: Pick n Pay H1 FY27 Interim Results
[Pick n Pay](/pick-n-pay) said turnover rose 2.4% to R60.5 billion from R59.0 billion.

Trading profit increased 58.1% to R490 million, up from R310 million. Trading profit margin improved to 0.8% from 0.5%.

The group’s loss before tax and capital items improved 56.2% to R139 million, compared with a loss of R317 million. Headline loss per share improved to a loss of 40.71 cents from a loss of 59.77 cents. Basic loss per share improved to a loss of 36.77 cents from a loss of 67.53 cents.

Pick n Pay said gross profit margin expanded 0.7% to 18.8%, with improvement in both the Pick n Pay and Boxer gross profit margin. It said trading expenses increased 4.5%, driven by the Boxer store rollout.

Pick n Pay also highlighted a “subsequent event” related to labour restructuring. It said it reached a successful conclusion and withdrawal of the Section 189A consultation process initiated in May 2026, following an agreement with labour partners to restructure the store labour model.

## Why It Matters
The results show a recovery in group profitability measures, including a higher trading profit and a smaller headline loss.

Pick n Pay’s net cash position of R10.0 billion, including R7.7 billion within Pick n Pay, points to balance sheet capacity while the group continues turnaround initiatives.

The labour model agreement is positioned by the group as supporting “improved cost management” and a “journey to profit break-even and long-term sustainability” for its core supermarket business.
