# PalmPay NightGuard Adds Extra Verification for Night Transfers

PalmPay has launched NightGuard, a new security control for night-time transfers. It adds an extra verification step for transfers made between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m.

## What Happened
[PalmPay](/palmpay) says NightGuard is now available inside its upgraded Security Centre.

With NightGuard, customers can choose a “protection window” at night, anywhere between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. If someone tries to send money during that chosen period, the app asks for additional verification before the transfer goes through.

Additional verification means PalmPay will request one more proof that the user is really the account owner, for example a PIN prompt or a device-based confirmation. PalmPay did not list every verification method in the announcement, but the goal is a stronger check than the normal flow.

The company said the feature is designed for cases where a phone is lost, stolen, or compromised, especially overnight when suspicious activity might be noticed later.

PalmPay Nigeria marketing head Femi Hanson said night-time risk can be higher when a device is missing or controlled by someone else, and that NightGuard gives users more control over when stronger checks apply.

## Why It Matters
Nigeria’s digital payments market keeps growing, and bank transfers are now a default way to pay people and businesses. That also increases exposure to scams, impersonation, and unauthorised access.

A time-based security rule like NightGuard is a simple form of risk control, similar to putting a “night lock” on outgoing transfers. It can reduce fraud losses if attackers depend on late-hour transfers to avoid quick detection.

For operators, this is another sign that fintechs are adding more self-serve security settings, not just relying on backend fraud systems. Expect more features that let users limit transfer windows, set transaction controls, and tighten authentication during high-risk periods.
