## Content

## In Short
PalmPay is expanding its youth empowerment programmes in Nigeria. The focus is digital skills, financial literacy, and workplace experience.

## What Happened
[PalmPay](/palmpay) said it will scale youth-focused training as demand rises for job-ready digital skills in Nigeria.

The company shared the update around International Youth Day. PalmPay Nigeria managing director Chika Nwosu said Nigeria’s young population is a major economic asset, but it needs better access to skills and opportunities.

The expanded plan covers several tracks. One is its Graduate Trainee Programme, which offers entry-level roles and structured learning for recent graduates.

Another track is financial-literacy training for NYSC members. NYSC is Nigeria’s National Youth Service Corps, a one-year service programme for graduates.

PalmPay also highlighted the Purple Woman programme. It supports young women with internships and professional development, which means guided work experience and career coaching.

The announcement lands in a market where basic ICT skills remain low. UNICEF has estimated that about 7% of Nigerians aged 15 to 24 have basic information and communication technology skills. That gap matters as more employers expect comfort with digital tools, online work, and modern payment systems.

## Why It Matters
For Nigeria’s fintech sector, workforce readiness is becoming a growth constraint, not just capital. Payment apps and digital banks need staff who can operate compliance, customer support, data, product, and sales roles.

For young people, programmes like graduate trainee pipelines and internship support can shorten the jump from school to work. They also help first-time workers build evidence of skills, like completed projects and references.

For policymakers, the move aligns with federal priorities around youth employment, entrepreneurship, and social inclusion. More private-sector training can help close the digital skills gap, especially if it reaches beyond major cities and into public-sector touchpoints like NYSC.
