## Content

## In Short
- nsave has been authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority as an Electronic Money Institution.
- The licence lets nsave issue electronic money and provide payment services directly to customers.
- The company also formed a Board Risk Committee and added two senior fintech and regulatory hires.

## What Happened
nsave, a global financial platform focused on people from emerging markets, said it has received UK FCA authorisation as an Electronic Money Institution (EMI). An EMI is a regulated firm that can issue electronic money, which is digital value stored in an account, like a prepaid balance. It can also provide payment services, like sending and receiving money.

With the EMI licence, [nsave](/nsave) can offer these services directly, instead of relying on a partner to hold the regulatory permission. The company said the approval follows significant investment in its technology, governance, compliance, and risk management.

nsave also announced two appointments to its newly formed Board Risk Committee, Peter O’Higgins and Julian Gooding. O’Higgins has held senior finance roles across fintech and banking, including serving as Revolut’s first CFO. Gooding has worked in legal, compliance, and regulatory roles across major banks and at the FCA.

The company said it has expanded this year from a global account into a broader financial platform, adding more payment capabilities and growing its customer base across multiple international markets.

## Why It Matters
For African and other emerging market users, regulated access to cross-border payments is often limited by where a customer is born or where they live. An FCA EMI licence can help nsave scale payment products with clearer rules on safeguarding customer funds and ongoing compliance.

For the wider fintech ecosystem, the move signals how Africa-facing financial platforms are using UK regulation to build globally usable payment rails. It also shows continued pressure on fintechs to invest in board-level risk oversight as they expand into more markets and add more financial services.
