## Content

## In Short
Moniepoint says it has built a nationwide financial services network across Nigeria.

The company says its POS terminals reach all 774 local government areas.

It also shared 2025 usage figures for POS payments, debit cards, and USSD.

## What Happened
In a blog post published on September 7, 2026, [Moniepoint](/moniepoint) described how it expanded from building software for banks into running its own retail financial services network.

The company said its POS network now covers all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. POS means point of sale terminals, the card payment devices many people use at agent kiosks to pay, withdraw cash, or transfer money.

Moniepoint also shared scale metrics from 2025. It said 100 million people paid at Moniepoint POS terminals that year.

It added that customers completed 300 million debit card transactions in 2025. It also said 5 million people used its USSD service, which is the short code menu system that works on basic phones without internet.

The post argues that reaching different users requires multiple “channels”. For example, smartphone users can request debit cards in an app, while people without smartphones can get cards through neighbourhood agents.

## Why It Matters
These numbers show how much everyday banking in Nigeria has shifted to agent networks, cards, and USSD, not branches.

For fintechs and banks, distribution is often the hard part. Getting devices, support, cash management, and reliable connectivity into smaller towns can decide whether a product scales beyond major cities.

For merchants and consumers, wide POS coverage can reduce travel time to banks and improve access to digital payments. It can also increase competition for payment acceptance and agent services, which may affect fees, reliability, and service quality over time.
