## Content

## In Short
Moniepoint alumni startups are becoming a visible trend in Nigeria’s fintech scene. A new profile list from Condia highlights 16 former Moniepoint employees who have gone on to build their own companies.

## What's Going On
[Moniepoint](/moniepoint) alumni startups are emerging as the company matures into a large-scale fintech employer. Moniepoint has grown from a payments startup into a major Nigerian fintech, with close to $300 million in venture funding and payments infrastructure used by businesses and individuals.

As of 2025, Moniepoint said it had more than 3,000 employees across 19 countries. That size matters because it creates a bigger pool of operators who have shipped products, managed risk, and built reliable payment systems.

Condia’s list puts names and companies behind that shift. Emmanuel Igbodudu, a former Moniepoint software engineer and technical product manager, is now co-founder and CTO at Waza. Waza is a B2B payments and liquidity platform, meaning it helps businesses move money and manage cash availability. Its flagship product, [Lync](/lync), is reported to process over $700 million in annualised payment volume, and Waza has raised $8 million in seed funding.

Another Moniepoint alumnus, Olamide Sobowale, co-founded [Anchor](/anchor), a banking-as-a-service company. Banking-as-a-service, or BaaS, is a way for businesses to offer bank-like features such as accounts and transfers through APIs, which are software connectors.

The list also includes Julian Dumebi Duru, who spent about a decade at Moniepoint and worked on virtual accounts, business loans, and fraud detection. He is now co-founder of Flow Research, an AI lab built around a “decentralised intelligence” thesis.

## What To Watch
First, more Moniepoint alumni startups may show up in SME tools, payments infrastructure, and credit. These are problem areas former fintech operators tend to understand well.

Second, watch how these new companies hire and raise funding. In other markets, “alumni networks” from fast-growing tech firms can become repeat founder pipelines.

Finally, pay attention to product spinouts that focus on reliability and fraud controls. Those are hard problems, and ex-payments engineers often build strong advantages there.
