## Content

## In Short
mDoc is using a mix of physical health points and virtual care to spot and manage non-communicable diseases in maternal health in Lagos.

## What Happened
A new report highlights how [mDoc](/mdoc) runs NudgeHub health hubs in Lagos that combine in-person screening with virtual follow-up care.

At Balogun Market, women can get routine checks like blood pressure and blood sugar tests. These are quick screenings that help flag risks such as hypertension, which is high blood pressure, and diabetes, which is when the body struggles to control blood sugar.

The report says nearly 900 women have been served through the Balogun Market hub. Health coaches on-site share results, explain what the numbers mean, and guide next steps.

For people who cannot return to the market hub often, the service also connects users through mDoc CompleteHealth. This is a virtual care option, similar to a remote check-in, where users can get ongoing support without always being physically present.

The report also points to the wider problem the hubs are trying to address. In Nigeria, non-communicable diseases, which are long-term conditions like heart disease and diabetes, are linked to a large share of deaths. For pregnant women, these conditions can raise the risk of complications before, during, and after delivery.

## Why It Matters
Maternal health programmes in Nigeria often focus on infections and emergency care, but chronic conditions can be missed until they become severe. Market-based health hubs can catch early warning signs in places women already visit.

The hybrid model matters for scale. In-person screening improves trust and access, while virtual care helps with follow-ups, coaching, and continuity between clinic visits.

For healthtech operators, the approach is also a signal that “telehealth” in Nigeria is increasingly becoming blended care. Telehealth means healthcare delivered over phone or internet, and it works best when linked to real-world testing and referrals.
